Students & F4H

F4H is built around learning by doing. Graduate students engage directly in research, platform development, and field projects — gaining hands-on experience at the intersection of climate science and food systems.

Advanced Certificate in Climate and Food Systems

F4H works closely with students enrolled in Columbia Climate School's Advanced Certificate in Climate and Food Systems, an 18-credit program embedded in the MS in Climate degree. The certificate prepares students to apply evidence-based approaches to food system transformation — spanning food and climate policy, climate impacts on food security, and applied analytical skills for professional practice.

Current certificate students engaged with F4H:

Louise Brilliant · Isabella Ferrigno · Yanenowi Helene Logan · Angie F. Sillah

Student Opportunities

F4H engages master's students in research across its three pillars: Food System Dynamics, Operational Intelligence & Forecasting, and the Living Lab. Students contribute to active projects, develop operational tools, and connect with F4H's practitioner and partner network. Opportunities vary based on available funding; interested students are encouraged to reach out.

Columbia Food Community

F4H connects with a broader ecosystem of food-focused groups and initiatives across Columbia. The Columbia University Food Pantry — a vital campus resource serving thousands of students annually across Morningside and the Irving Medical Center — reflects the same commitment to food access and community resilience that motivates F4H's research. The SIPA Food Group and other Columbia food communities represent natural connections as F4H's campus presence grows.

As these relationships develop, F4H will formalize collaborations that connect student learning to real food system challenges on campus and across New York City.
